Responding officers found a 44-year-old Sturbridge man lying on the ground at 250 Bent St. around 8:30 a.m., according to Cambridge Police.
He was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of this contractor’s employee, and our thoughts are with this person’s family, friends and colleagues," an AT&T spokesperson told the Daily Voice. "We’re working closely with investigators and the contractor to determine what happened here.”
The preliminary investigation revealed that the man worked as a subcontractor at the AT&T branch.
He was working on an emergency lighting conduit at the time of the incident, police added. No further information was immediately available. The man's name was not released.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will also investigate the incident.
